MEDIA RELEASE
 FOR IMMEDIATE USE
 28 SEPTEMBER 2000

UNAVOIDABLE CHANGES TO THE HOUSE BUSINESS PROGRAMME

Please take notice that the House Business Programme has had to be amended as described below.

1.Departments will now be allowed to finalise and table their six monthly financial reports on or before 30 October 2000.

This is somewhat a departure from the Standing Rules of Procedure, but the decision is in line with the PFMA and, not in conflict with
Legislatures Constitutional obligations.

2.The tabling of the department financial reports within the afore-specified period and an expected announcements of the Local Elections
date will assist in the determination of the date for the commencement of the Financial Oversight function of our Standing Committees.

3.The other already scheduled activities such as the EU Workshops, the Launch of the Anti-corruption Network and meetings related to the
Management and Administration of the Legislature are not affected by these changes. The same applies to the pre-arranged public hearings. All
these activities will come to an end on 2 November 2000.It is recommended that the Launch and the Workshops be clustered in one week.

4.An amended programme showing the latter activities and their dates for which they are set will be distributed by the Proceedings and
Committees Sections.

5.An update on future plans regarding the House Business will be made immediately after 30 October 2000.
